CDT student Best Poster Award at British Liquid Crystal Society Conference 2014

CDT PhD student Calum Williams (Cambridge) has received the best poster award at a conference in Durham.

CDT PhD student Calum Williams, supervised by Prof. Timothy D. Wilkinson, presented the work titled "Plasmonic nanoantennas for holographic liquid crystal based pixels" at the British Liquid Crystal Society Conference 2014.

The conference poster describes the use of plasmonic optical antennas with liquid crystals in order to enhance the functionality of typical holographic display devices. These metallic nanostructures provide a means of storing information directly on the silicon backplane of a pixel, resulting in additional modulation capability not accessible in current display technologies.
